Teen Brings Pajamas, Caring to Elderly

To These Nusing Home Residents, 'Christmas Is Corissa'

By BRIAN O'KEEFE

Dec. 24, 2008 —

Corissa Tefft, 14, first came to the Rosewood Heights Nursing Home in Syracuse, N.Y., when her beloved grandmother became a resident three years ago. Tefft began volunteering and soon became attached to many of the other grandmothers and grandfathers.

Happy Festivus!

Don't know how many of you watched Seinfeld, but here is your Urban Word of the Day:

December 23: Festivus

n. An alternative to the crass commercialization of Christmas, typically celebrated on December 23. It involves The Airing of Grievances (telling your family and friends all the ways they have disappointed you during the year) and does not end until the Feats of Strength (physically pinning the head member of the family) are accomplished. A plain, metal pole is used in lieu of a Christmas tree, because decorations (such as tinsel) are distracting from the true meaning of the holiday.

A Festivus for the rest of us! -George Costanza

Happy moment #7 of 7 happy moments

Saturday I found out that my cousin Kim will be on the 2009 Donate Life Float in the RoseBowl Parade in Pasadena, CA.  She will be on float # 69, DONATE LIFE FLOAT. There are 89 floats in the parade. She was one of 26 selected because her son, Kevin Morsching, died in 2007 and was an organ donor.

Kevin died in the prime of his life from a preventable head injury during a skateboarding accident.  He was not wearing a helmet.

I am asking a favor of everyone. Go to the Web Site donatelifefloat.org, find the list of float riders and click on Kim Morsching's picture (just scan down thru the pictures of the 26 riders).   This is in an effort to get Kim on the photographers side of the float during the parade so we can hopefully see her on TV.  Do this as often as you like as they like to see the hits on the site as that shows support for the program, donate life.

So far we know Kevin has helped 55 people outside of the major organs that he donated, and since he was a semi-pro athlete (baseball) with extremely healthy organs, all donations have been successful and are working well.  It is such comfort to know he has made so many happy. He definitely brought happiness to his family.

This may seem like a strange happy moment- but it is a wonderful cause that needs the publicity, and it also helps us realize Kevin's death was not totally in vain.  Thanks all~

Every once in a while, something will appear in the night sky that will attract the attention of even those who normally don't bother looking up. It's likely to be that way on Monday evening, Dec. 1.

A slender crescent moon, just 15-percent illuminated, will appear in very close proximity to the two brightest planets in our sky, Venus and Jupiter.
